I know I’m going to catch some flak for this, but I think Leonard Fournette is going to hand out some disappointment to fantasy owners this year. Typically I’m all about young elite RB’s out of the SEC, and not to say the big fella won’t be a stud sooner or later, I just don’t believe this is going to be his year, particularly in fantasy.
Many RB rankings across the web have him listed right around the 10th overall RB (and yes, these are updated lists). I just don’t feel I’ve seen enough from him this preseason to warrant a 2nd round pick. He had 9 carries for 32 yards and a score in week 1 of preseason play, but he didn’t play week 2 or 3 and will not play in week 4 due to a foot injury. Foot injuries can prove to be one of the most nagging injuries in sports, and Fournette has a history of them back to college.
We also have not even begun to talk about the major issues surrounding him on this less-than-shaky offense. QB Blake Bortles is struggling to complete passes and run the offense and the Jags continue to have some serious concerns on the offensive line.
Bottom line is Fournette is simply too much of a risk to draft him as early as he’s been going. Here’s some guys that I will target as RB’s over Fournette that in many formats are going later than him in drafts:
– Christian McCaffrey
– Isaiah Crowell
– Dalvin Cook
– Kareem Hunt
